Cialis Facts

Cialis is a drug typically used to treat erectile dysfunction. The primary ingredient in Cialis is tadalafil which works by relaxing the muscles in the body and increasing the volume of blood flow where it is needed. While Cialis is primarily given to men with erectile dysfunction, it has a variety of other uses that are not as well known.

Doctors have recently begun using Cialis to treat their patients diagnosed with benign prostatic hyperplasia or BPH, which is characterized by enlargement of the prostate gland. This condition is extremely common, as most men experience enlargement of the prostate as they age. While BPH is not a progressive condition, it can cause symptoms that quickly become a nuisance. Some symptoms associated with BPH include frequent urges to urinate, difficulty urinating, dribbling after urinating and producing a weak stream of urine. Taking Cialis can help men with BPH experience less severe symptoms or they may stop altogether.

Since Cialis increases blood flow throughout the body, recent studies have shown an increase in exercise ability in those who take the drug. This is especially beneficial for those who have been diagnosed with pulmonary arterial hypertension or PAH. Taking Cialis once each day can relax blood vessels inside the lungs and increase the amount of oxygen flowing from the lungs. This gives people the ability to perform more vigorous exercise activities for a longer period of time. Regular exercise is an important part of keeping the body healthy and weight at healthy limits. Using Cialis in this manner provides patients with a myriad of benefits.

Vigorous exercise will also boost confidence and will promote a positive self esteem, which makes Cialis a more effective erectile dysfunction medication. Men who suffer from Peyronie\'s disease may also benefit from taking Cialis. Peyronie\'s disease is caused by scar tissue in the penis that can cause curvature of the penis. Men who have this condition often have hourglass shaped penis or severe penis shortening.

While the exact cause of this disease is unknown, doctors believe trauma to the penis can cause it to develop in some men. Taking Cialis each day may help reduce the symptoms associated with Peyronie\'s disease helping men lead a fuller sexual life. If Cialis decreases the severity of symptoms, many men can avoid painful injections and surgery. It is clear that Cialis has a variety of benefits for those who take it daily. Using this medication can help people have increases sexual confidence which naturally boosts self-esteem. When taking this medication, always heed the advice of your doctor for maximum benefits.

The Story of Cialis

Cialis is the brand name for the drug tadalafil. Although many people know Cialis as a treatment for erectile
dysfunction
for men, the drug has a surprising number of other uses. The journey of Cialis from
research and development to worldwide availability took nearly a decade to complete
.

GlaxoSmithKline (then Glaxo Wellcome) discovered Cialis in 1994 while in a research partnership with the Icos Corporation, a biotechnology company. The scientists were actually studying a medication known as
sildenafil and its possible use in heart medicine at the time, but noticed that men in the study who took slidenafil experienced penile erections. A compound similar in structure to slidenafil, known as tadalafil, was
patented soon after.

In 1997, the research focus shifted to the use of Cialis in men who had erectile dysfunction, and once those trials were completed successfully, the drug moved to the trials required for approval by the Federal
Drug Administration
(FDA). Because the partnership agreement ended in 1996 and was not renewed by
Glaxo, Lilly ICOS (a 1998 joint venture of the Icos Corporation and Eli Lilly and Company, a U.S. based
pharmaceutical company) continued to develop Cialis alone. Lilly ICOS filed a new drug application
for tadalafil, with the brand name "Cialis", in 2000, receiving FDA approval in 2003.

Cialis is not just an erectile dysfunction medication. Knowing the heart benefits that were originally the reason
behind developing Cialis, the company received FDA approval for the men with pulmonary arterial
hypertension, marketing the same drug under the brand name Adcirca. This type of high blood
blood pressure
makes it difficult for men to exercise because of its symptoms, such as dizziness and
shortness of breath. Because Adcirca increases blood flow, exercise is easier for men with arterial
hypertension who take the drug.

In addition to high blood pressure and erectile dysfunction, Cialis was approved for the treatment of benign
prostatic hyperplasia by the FDA in 2011. Benign prostatic hyperplasia causes a man\'s prostate
gland to enlarge. Men with this condition experience problems urinating, ranging from an
excessive need to urinate to difficulty going at all. Although the disorder is benign, it impacts a man\'s quality of
life and is disruptive to daily routines. Because benign prostatic hyperplasia often occurs in older men, Cialis is a course of treatment that can also help with another condition older men are more likely to
experience, erectile dysfunction, at the same time.
